A special moment for the employees of VBV Elektro & Kunststof in Uden last Monday. They have recently been working on their largest air washer project to date. On Monday, the 18-meter-long air washer was transported to Belgium.
An air washer is, as the name suggests, an installation that cleans the air. They are used in intensive livestock farming to reduce one or more substances that damage the environment. Making an air washer is nothing new for VBV, but they are still quite proud of their latest project.
"This air washer is no less than 18 meters long, 4,30 meters wide and 3,50 meters high," demonstrates project manager Aron van Gemert. "That is the largest air washing unit we have ever made in one element. VBV built their first biological air washer in 1986. This was long before air washers were given a prominent place in the agricultural sector. "Our first air washers had a length of 6 meters. Now we are already at a threefold increase. The development continues and you notice that there is an increasing demand for it, partly due to the rules of the government." VBV is, in addition to the Netherlands, increasingly focusing on Belgium, where air washers are still more unusual.
Functioning
There are both biological and chemical air washers. In biological systems, the functioning is based on microorganisms that convert ammonia to nitrite and nitrate. In chemical air washers, ammonia is converted using sulfuric acid that is added to a filter
Customization
Aron: "This air washer is specifically intended for a pigsty, but air washers can be used in all kinds of stables, including barns with chickens and goats. All our air washers are fully customized to the client's request. The parts are prepared internally as much as possible. This reduces the total construction time. Subsequently, the washer is installed by our staff."
